Top ten best family resorts on the east coast of the United States.

For as long as I can remember, I've been frequenting family friendly resorts.  With the exception of my honeymoon, every trip that I've been on included younger children under the age of 10.  Whatever the case, I've been all along the eastern coast of the United States staying at family friendly resorts.  Of all the places I've been, these ten are my top favorite that for a family getaway!

For those of you familiar with my page, it takes a lot like a whole lot to get my seal of approval.

Top ten best family resorts on the east coast of the US.

1.  Sheraton Vistana Resort Villas - Orlando, FL (link)
This resort is minutes away from Disney WorldUniversal (link)Sea World (link)Legoland (link), and other popular attractions in Orlando, Florida.  I grew up going to this resort every year as a kid and now I do the same with my own children.  We love this resort because it really holds its own, even against Disney world.

As a native Long Islander, I grew up with family getaways to the Jersey Shore.  One of our favorite spots to go with the kids is the FantaSea Resorts.  They're located right on the boardwalk and only a few minutes from Ripley's Believe it or Not and other attractions.  The real reason for making it #2 on my list of top ten family resorts is the amenities offered for the children.  They include an onsite arcade, children's games, free kid's club, and an outside pool.

Williamsburg was another family vacation spot that I enjoyed growing up and now take my own kids.  I've stayed at 3 different places and this was by far my favorite.  It is central to historical sitesBush Gardens Theme Park (link), and other attractions.  Additionally, it has a children's pool, kid's activities, an onsite playground, onsite sports like beach volleyball and golf.

4.  Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina - Newport, RI
Rhode Island is one of the most fabulous places to vacation as a family, yet is highly overlooked.  If you don't believe me, check out this detailed post I made with an action packed 4 day itinerary (link).  Gurney's is not only family friendly, but it's also pet friendly so your entire family can enjoy this trip.

A family vacation to Boston, MA is a lot more exciting than one may originally think.  There is history hello Boston Tea Partyan aquarium, fabulous eats (link), a children's museum, a boardwalk, the Quincy Market, Lego Land (link), sports games, and so much more.  As an added bonus, it's a short drive away from Salem, MA which is filled with even more fun activities.  My kids really enjoyed the witchy vibe and driving past the Hocus Pocus house.  A family vacation to Boston is an absolute MUST since there's literally something for everyone to do here.

While not as updated as the Gurney's in Newport, I'd be a horrible Long Islander to skip this one and I had some of my favorite memories at this resort!  This resort has the best of both worlds, a private pool and beach.  We love spending the days flip flopping between the two.  At least once during our stay, we'll enjoy the beach at night by having a bonfire right in the sand.  As parents we don't mind flip flopping either because there is both a beach and poolside bar at this family friendly resort!

We love a relaxing Myrtle Beach vacation as a family.  This resort is especially convenient with young kids since you just walk out into the beach from the hotel.  This family resort is a short walk from the boardwalk, Midway Park, and Family Kingdom Amusement Park.  As an added perk, this resort comes with free water park access that has a lazy river!

St. Augustine is one of my favorite places to go for a family vacation.  There's a great mix between city life, beach life, and historical sightseeing.  There's so much to do in St. Augustine that it's near impossible to do it all in one trip.  Instead of listing them all here click this link for my detailed post of things to do while in St. Augustine.  This hotel is on the beach and only a few minute drive from the historic district.

Rehoboth Beach is an undiscovered gem of the east coast.  This little beach town makes for a fabulous family vacation.  This hotel in particular is a short walk from the boardwalk and offers beachfront dining.

Villa Roma is an amazing family resort.  Our favorite time of the year to go is Autumn because of all the fall festivities and foliage in the Catskills.  There is also snow tubing and other snow sports in the Winter in addition to water activities in the Summer.  This resort is versatile and PERFECT for keep the kiddies entertained.  Click here for my honest and detailed review of Villa Roma.
