Let's be honest, I go to Villa Roma every year and I probably talk about it way too much. Ok, I'm sorry but.. We love this place! It feels like home and really is a great time, especially with young kids.
We visit Villa Roma (link) every Columbus Day week which means our experiences are limited to the Fall season. This year we made a second trip upstate to enjoy Villa Roma in the Winter time. Trust me when I say it was a whole different experience in a good way.

Travel: Villa Roma Resorts in Callicoon, NY
The second major difference was the activities. There were obviously more Winter activities. Villa Roma caters to the season which is amazing! The Fall is filled with pumpkin painting, trips to the farms, and complimentary hayrides to get fresh apple cider. The Winter is filled with snow sports, indoor activities, trivia games, and line dancing.
Finally, let's talk about the most important thing, the Winter sports! I was HIGHLY impressed with the experience. Originally I was hesitant to book Villa Roma because I didn't think it would take the Winter sports seriously. Consider me humbled because I was so wrong! They offer skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and sledding with over 5 runs.
The first thing you'll notice is their ski chalet. This large, wooden building has two floors. The first floor is dedicated to the snow sports. Each sport has their own room complete with its own staff and all the necessary equipment rentals. The second floor was such a pleasant surprise. There was a bar, two overlooks, a cozy fireplace, a snack bar, and plenty of seating. This was my first time in the ski chalet. It really was such a fun, kid friendly, Winter experience.
Villa Roma has a large mountain with 5 different runs. As shown in the map above, they're all named with super fun Italian names. My personal favorite name is the Fettuccini Flop! The resort does make their own snow, but when its 50 degrees like it was during our trip, it's difficult for the staff to keep up with it. Despite the warmer weather, the resort staff did a great job of making sure that everyone was able to enjoy all of the offered sports except for the sledding.
We've gone to many other ski locations including Plattekill Mountain and Catamount Mountain. To reserve time for any Winter sports on these more prestigious locations, you're going to be opening your wallet big time. Villa Roma offers all the snow sports at ridiculously low price tags. So low, that I had to ask the attendant to repeat the total twice..
The final thing I wanted to mention is the height requirements for the snow tubing. We were surprised to learn that children must be at least 43" in order to go snow tubing for safety reasons. Two of the kids in our group including my son didn't meet these height requirements. They were allowed to sit in a tube and we were allowed to run around dragging them with the rope, but it just wasn't the same. To add to that, the hot temperatures were against us. When it is as unseasonably warm as it was during our trip, the staff dedicates their efforts to the actual Winter sports and not the sledding. The younger kids are allowed to sled, but there just wasn't the snow for it during our trip. Luckily, the younger kids still had fun playing in the snow and being dragged. I wouldn't let this stop me from booking a Winter trip in the future, but it's definitely something worth considering.
I would HIGHLY recommend the Villa Roma Resorts (link) for a trip to enjoy Winter sports.
