Ever since I was a little girl, actually, ever since my mom was a little girl, my family would take an annual trip to the Catskill Mountains in Upstate, NY. This simple trip is something that we really look forward to every year. It's the only trip that we take each year where we literally plan to relax.
Since I already did a review of Villa Roma Resorts (link) in the Winter, see below link if you missed it, today I'm just going to share some of my favorite moments from a trip in October.

Villa Roma Resorts in Callicoon, NY
Like Doc Holiday always says, Villa Roma (link) is like a cruise on land. As strange as this statement sounds, it's surprisingly accurate. There are scheduled activities that anyone can join all day and night. There are extra fun activities to do onsite for a small fee. There are shows to watch every single night. Finally, one of the most common and best things to do at Villa Roma, is to eat, and eat, and eat some more. Sounds like a cruise to me!
Baby girl's other favorite activities includes playing BINGO, pumpkin painting, and playing on the gigantic playground. This is the first year that she didn't want to spend every waking moment playing the games that are offered. This was also the first year that she didn't win anything. While she took losing like a trooper, she embraced her creative side more.
My son's favorite activity is the turtle racing! We have the best time picking out our favorite turtle and them cheering them on to win the race. This year, we bet on #8 every single race. It was baby boy's pick and he won almost every time probably because he was screaming like a lunatic at the poor turtle.
My handsome little man also thoroughly enjoyed all of the singing, dancing, and feeding chickens that he was able to do. Although, if we ask him what his top three favorite things to do were, he adds "find a bear" to the list. PSA- We never found a bear nor did we ever look for one.
When I asked my husband for his favorite part of our trip to Villa Roma, he responded with "the food". Since I wouldn't accept this answer because we all LOVE the food, he responded with visiting the farms. I kind of guessed this because he's always first in line to brush the horses, feed the chickens, and play with the cows. At one point, I caught him chasing a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker around the farm and I totally swooned.
His other favorites include the daily BINGO games, Caesar's night, and watching the Chris Monty comedy act. We all laughed when he added "driving really fast down the hill". He gets a kick out the kids screaming and his belly dropping as he drives along the hilly roads.
Finally, my favorite thing to do while at Villa Roma, is to visit the Stone Arch Bridge in Kenoza Lake, NY. This historic bridge dates back to approximately 1880. It's also the location of one of the first known hex murders which I still don't fully understand but I'm fascinated with it. Despite the historical significance, it's just a breathtakingly beautiful spot. It's an Autumn wonderland. The kids enjoy going because there is a huge playground. Afterwards, we hike along the river on the trails which is another one of my favorite activities.
My other favorites include looking for birds, watching the kids be the "jockeys" at the wooden horse races, and walking through the Villa Roma's nature trails. It's not really Villa Roma related, but I love the late game nights with my family and the early morning pancake breakfasts. We obviously don't all live together, so it reminds me of a time when we all did live close enough to do this regularly.
